## [[§ Design]]
#### [Design is Not a Choice | by Benek Lisefski | UX Collective](https://uxdesign.cc/design-is-not-a-choice-bb5e757f0a6)
> Design is not a choice
> You can’t create things without design happening.
> Design is inescapable. It must happen every time something is created. Evidence of design is seen in each of those decisions.
> The next time you’re told “our app is done but it needs some UX”, run for the hills. You’re entering a situation where all the design has been done by people who didn’t even realise they were doing it, and now they want you to audit and redo all of those creative decisions (but change as little as possible, pretty please)!
> As Adam Judge said:
“The alternative to good design is always bad design. There is no such thing as no design.”

#### [Every Design is a System](https://uxdesign.cc/every-design-is-a-system-28bb9bf028b7?gi=bc192ba07a1e)
>Systems thinking replaces Design Thinking’s reductionism (the belief that everything can be reduced to individual parts) with:
>- Expansionism (the belief that a system is always a sub-system of some larger system)
>- Analysis (gaining knowledge of the system by understanding its parts)
>- Synthesis (explaining its role in the larger system of which it is a part)
This feels like Hegel applied to Design.
> What system thinking really means in design is this: every decision you make affects other past and future decisions. Every pixel you draw is bound by rules governed by your previous choices. When you make a change — no matter how big or small — it may reverberate through your entire design and require other updates to keep the coherence of the system intact.
