This job title has many benefits for a [[Generalists vs. Specialists|Design Generalist]] but some big downsides.
The Product Designer describes someone working across:
- [[User Research]]
- [[User Experience|UX Design]]
- [[UI Design]]
- [[Service Design]]
- Design support for a product:
- Branding
- Graphic Design
- Motion Design
There seems to be a slight trend for using this title, your product design may just be a rebadged[^2] UX Designer or Information Architect.
The biggest downside is the general public do not refer to digital software and services as Products.[^1] Products feel physical. A Product Designer may be mistaken for an Industrial Designer.
