>Simply magnify an object without changing its shape, and, without meaning to, you have changed all its properties.
– Julian Huxley
Externalities are the uncosted economic impacts that exist due to the activity of an economic entity such as a government, business or individual. An oil company does not have to take in the cost of pollution to people's health.
David Cameron, George Osborne and the conservative party enacted **austerity**, but had [[Our maps are different and Invisible|an incomplete map]] of society due to their ideology. The mathematics of the proposed economy did not know that family units do not always equal 2.4, that being in poverty is more expensive that being rich, that an illness costs money even if you do not treat it. They did not need to know this, because they were correct that Austerity was [[socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor]].
But they were surprised that the more austerity they inflicted on the economy, the more the national debt grew. It wasn’t a surprise to most people, as externalities cost money whether you are aware of them of not. Neoliberals have never had a convincing answer for how [[Failing Systems cost more than Funded Systems]].
